Rakhi/ Raksha Bandhan 2013
Rakhi/ Raksha Bandhan is an important festival of the Hindu religion, and it has its roots in the Epics and Vedas. Rakhi has been celebrated since time immemorial, in ancient India, and till today. The festival signifies the deep bond and love between sister and brother. Although the exact origin of Raksha Bandhan is not clear here are some of the stories related to the origin of Raksha Bandhan.

The Legend of Goddess Laxmi and King Bali
According to Hindu mythology it is said that Lord Vishnu left his abode to protect King Bali's Kingdom from the demon. But Goddess Laxmi wanted to be with her husband and went to King Bali in a disguise of Brahman women and asked for shelter. During the celebration of Shravan Purnima she tied Rakhi on the wrist of King Bali and revealed him the truth. The King touched by this act promised Goddess Laxmi that he will help her whenever she wants.

Indian History
Indian History states that the Rajputh Queens use to send Rakhi to Mughal Kings during war and in turn they promised their sisters to protect them.

Yama and Yamuna
Another story states that Yamuna tied rakhi Toyama (Lord of Death). Yama was so touched by this act that he declared whoever gets his hand tied with Rakhi and promise his sister to protect her would be bestowed with immortality.

There are numerous other stories related to the origin of Raksha Bandhan but whatever be the story the day has become a symbol for the love of brother and sister.

Every year on the full moon day in the Hindu month of shravana rakhi is celebrated. When is rakhi 2013? Rakhi in 2013 is celebrated on 21st August.

Significance of Raksha Bandhan
The depth of love in the brother-sister relationship is indicated by two words of Raksha and Bandhan. They are the epitome of strong blood bonded chords between both of them. The significance of Raksha Bandhan is very important in the life of an Indian. The festival of Raksha Bandhan signifies the strong bond between sister and brother. The significance of Raksha Bandhan can be understood by its rituals and traditions. Raksha Bandhan means “bond of protection” and it is a tradition that sisters tie Rakhi on the wrist of their brothers and in turn they promise to protect them in any crucial situation.

Rakhi gift ideas
On the set Muhurat, they tie Rakhi on the wrist of their brother and perform their Arti. She then makes her brother eat a piece of mithai (sweet). This sweet refers to the sweetness their relationship engrosses and has kept since the childhood days. Gifts are exchanged between brothers and sisters and this is the way they show their love for each other.

Traditional and fancy Rakhis are good for elder brothers. They also like floral Rakhis. Besides, ultra modern ones like satin ribbon Rakhis, beaded Rakhis and Rakhis with wristwatch designs are appreciated too. The Rakhi shopping is not limited to typical Rakhi thread shopping, people also purchase varied gifts for Rakhi celebration. FATHERS DAY 2013

Father’s Day is celebrated on 3rd Sunday in June. The idea for creating a day for children to honor their fathers began in Spokane, Washington. A woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd thought of the idea for Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. Having been raised by her father, Henry Jackson Smart, after her mother died, Sonora wanted her father to know how special he was to her. It was her father that made all the parental sacrifices and was, in the eyes of his daughter, a courageous, selfless, and loving man. Sonora's father was born in June, so she chose to hold the first Father's Day celebration in Spokane, Washington on the 19th of June 1910.
At about the same time in various towns and cities across American other people were beginning to celebrate a "father's day." In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Father's Day. Roses are the Father's Day flowers: red to be worn for a living father and white if the father has died.
Father's Day has become a day to not only honor your father, but all men who act as a father figure. Stepfathers, uncles, grandfathers, and adult male friends are all honored on Father's Day.

SIGNIFICANCE OF FATHERS DAY :
The significance of Father’s Day is related directly to the position of a father in the family as well as in the society. Every child needs both father and mother in order to get a good mental health. In the primary stages, both father and mother remain responsible for taking some important decisions related to the education and growing up of the child. At the present time, most of the countries have patriarchal societies and because of this the fathers play the leading role in taking the above mentioned decisions.
